The 2026 ISRA Foundation Course at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar was fully attended, bringing together a full day of structured teaching and practical training in the core skills of ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia.
Held in the Simulation Suite at Mayo University Hospital, the course combined short teaching sessions with small-group ultrasound scanning and needle-guidance practice for anaesthetists developing their regional anaesthesia skills.
Core regional anaesthesia skills
Teaching covered the principles of ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, ultrasound physics, machine controls and needle guidance, followed by practical teaching focused on common upper- and lower-limb nerve blocks.
Teaching followed by practical scanning
Axillary, popliteal and femoral blocks were each introduced in a teaching session and reinforced with practical scanning and needle-guidance practice.
