ISRA’s third cadaveric regional anaesthesia course took place at University College Dublin.

The two-day course was designed for anaesthetists seeking to build on foundation knowledge, develop practical regional anaesthesia skills and progress beyond novice-level practice.

The programme combined short introductory anatomy sessions with hands-on ultrasound scanning and needling practice in small groups. The course was ESRA-DRA accredited and was particularly relevant to participants preparing for the ESRA-DRA examinations.

What the course covered

Applied anatomy relevant to commonly performed regional anaesthesia blocks.
Ultrasound visualisation of commonly performed regional anaesthesia blocks.
Practical performance of single-shot regional anaesthesia blocks on cadavers.
Insertion of continuous regional anaesthesia infusion catheters on cadavers.

Who the course was for

The course was intended for anaesthetists with more than one year of experience practising anaesthesia who had completed the ISRA Foundation Course or an equivalent programme.

The course was approved for 9 cadaveric hands-on points, 1 ultrasound hands-on point and 1 other point.
