Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship · Dublin
A 12-month fellowship working alongside the regional anaesthesia consultants at St James's Hospital and the South Dublin Surgical Hub.
The hospitals
St James's Hospital is the largest acute academic teaching hospital in Ireland, with over 1,000 inpatient beds and 15 operating theatres. It has close academic links with Trinity College Dublin, and the National Burns Unit and the National Coagulation Centre are on site, bringing a steady stream of patients with complex needs.
The South Dublin Surgical Hub is a day-surgery unit focused on modern ambulatory care, with regional anaesthesia a key part of its work.

Clinical experience
A high-volume tertiary centre, with experience across:
- Upper and lower limb, thoracic, abdominal and neuraxial techniques
- Awake upper and lower limb surgery under regional anaesthesia, including the non-technical skills it needs
- Running a safe and sustainable regional anaesthesia service
Non-clinical time
Protected non-clinical time is built into the working week. The fellow is expected to:
- Help run and develop the department's regional anaesthesia teaching programme
- Carry out audit and quality improvement projects
Research is optional, depending on your interests, and support is available for higher qualifications. You'll also be supported to complete the ESRA Diploma (ESRA-DRA) if you haven't already.

The post is advertised once a year. The next advert is planned for October–November 2026, for the post starting in July 2027. Dates may change.
